You’ve heard the saying, “A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.” That is also true with you and with me. We are only as strong as our weaknesses allow us to be. It is crucial therefore, that we face and transcend our weaknesses. Here’s how.
We are currently living in Marrakesh Morocco and I just had an amazing experience. But first, let me describe this place for you: across the street is the old medina and the entire thing is walled in by this massive walls; they must be 30/40 feet high. And then you get inside where the narrow streets filled with shops, houses, people and it looks very busy and it’s awesome. Well, there are some really beautiful homes in there but for the most part not really wealthy.
The Big Muscly Guy
One day, I was walking through those streets and I found a little sign there says ‘Weight Lifting Gym & Martial Arts’. I went there and found kind of some MMA classes on the top floor and then at the basement there is a Taekwondo class. Therefore, I told my kids and we went there to see what will happen.
We went there and we found a big muscly guy and the whole class was in Arabic but he could speak some English tough. However, we started working out and the big guy was pushing me so hard! REALLY HARD as a consequence he injured my throat and I literally couldn’t speak for 10 days. And when finally healed I went back and one day he came up to me, he put his hand on my shoulder and he just said: You are slow and weak that I must help you! And I honestly loved that! Because I always love straight talk and I love this ‘culture’ of ‘I am just going to tell you how it is and I am going to push your limits and I don’t really care what you think.’
Get Out of Your Comfort Zone
We all need this kind of ‘in your face’ honesty to know where we are weak and where we are struggling. And honestly, most of us are pretty weak, soft and squashy. And real growth happens at the edge of your comfort zone. It’s pushing your limits, it’s facing the hard truth.
We need to be pushed in order to expand our comfort zone. Thus, ask people to push you, hire trainers, get a mentor and get somebody who challenges you all the time.
I love to tell people get comfortable being uncomfortable. Because we need to be growing, changing and improving. Don’t ever settle and think you have arrived because this way you’ll never achieve a thing. There is no limit to your growth and your potential.
You can keep growing until the moment you leave this world!
I challenge you to be on this lifelong quest to learn, to grow and to improve.
My challenge for you today: face your weaknesses, get somebody to push your limits, stop being weak and go after a lifelong quest to learn and improve. And I promise as we grow and improve everything around us improves.
